La Spezia is going to be a “green port”

The ports of La Spezia and Venice will be the first ports to take the measures foreseen by ENEL’s development project. La Spezia Port Authority’s President, Mr. Lorenzo Forcieri, and Mr Fulvio Conti, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Enel, signed the memorandum of understanding which is going to reduce the polluting emissions of port operations.

La Spezia is going to be a “green port” in all respects.

The president of La Spezia Port Authority, Mr. Lorenzo Forcieri, has signed in Rome the memorandum of understanding with the Managing Director of ENEL in order to reduce the polluting emissions of port operations.

Venice Port Authority’s President, Mr. Paolo Costa signed a similar agreement for the port of Venice as well.

Enel’s project “green ports” aims to use the best energy technologies for port operations and La Spezia will be, together with Venice, the first port in Italy adopting all the project’s measures.

One of the first goals is the study of an electric power supply system on pier in order to minimize the on-board electricity generator’s emissions.

“This memorandum of understanding is an epoch-making event for the port’s and the town’s future. To make the port safer and more environment sustainable means to let the town community live better. – said Mr Forcieri. – The “green ports” project is going to meet what the Master Plan foresees as for the energy development”.

Electric power supplied piers are already working in North America in the ports of  Los Angeles, Seattle, Juneau and Vancouver, and in Europe in the ports of Goteborg and Lubec.
