Porto PRPAfter a long procedure, the new Port Master Plan has recently been approved, thanks to the active cooperation of all involved bodies: Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of  Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation, Public Works’ Governing Council, Ligurian Regional Administration, Provincial and Municipal Administrations of La Spezia, Lerici and Portovenere.
The drawing up of this important planning mean has absorbed the whole territory inside the breakwater under the administration of La Spezia, Lerici and Portovenere.
The planning work has concerned not only the traditional port, but also the industrial and oil sector, passenger traffic, fishing, tourist and yachting activities.
With attention to all different activities coexisting in the gulf, the Port Master Plan’s main intervention fields have been determined:
•optimization of commercial movements as regards the three transport sectors, general cargoes, container and coasting trade;
•strengthening of intermodal transport, in order to move 50% of container traffic by rail;
•rationalization of the shipbuilding sector for an increased competitiveness on international markets;
• improvement of the tourist sector, with new piers and berths, in order to better meet the yachting market’s demand;
• a new cruise terminal to satisfy the passengers sector’s increasing demand in the Med;
• rationalization and strengthening of fishing and mussel farming activities, which are so characteristic of the gulf of La Spezia.
The inner meaning of the new Port Master Plan is the willing to harmonize all economic, industrial and commercial activities existing in the gulf, thanks to a better organization of the port areas and with a special attention to environmental protection.
